View Funeral Webcast Linda Johnson Akin, 78, homemaker and long-time resident of Hampshire, died Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at NHC Maury Regional Transitional Care. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 10:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Randy Baxter and Ben Diles officiating. Burial will follow in Worley Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Born April 1, 1944 in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Leonard Jones “Doc” Johnson and the late Margaret Rachael Davis Johnson. She was Salutatorian of Hampshire High School class of 1962 and attended Columbia Business College. Ms. Akin was a founding member of The Hampshire Museum, a big supporter of the Hampshire Community and the school. She was a very avid Tennessee Titans fan. Ms. Akin was a member of Cathey’s Creek Church of Christ. Survivors include her daughter, Melissa Akin (Todd) Baxter of Santa Fe; grandchildren, Tanner Baxter of Chattanooga; Rachael Baxter of Columbia; and special nieces and nephews, Megan Baker, Brandon Johnson, Tucker Davis, Hunter Baker, Lexi Johnson, and Peyton Johnson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Carole Akin; grandson, Cody Baxter; and brothers, Robert David “Doc” Johnson and Joe Johnson. Active pallbearers will be Tanner Baxter, Brandon Johnson, Tucker Davis, Sam Davis, Nolan Riley, Ronnie Hinson, Bill Riley, Steve Riley. Honorary pallbearers include Gary (Bonnie) Riley, Phillip (Janet) Griffith, Everett Grimmitt, J.T. Duncan, and Richard Hayes.
