Lois Gertrude Potts Tanner, 86, Maury County native and resident of South Carolina, went to be with her Savior on July 18, 2016. A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 10:30 A.M. at Johnson's Chapel Cemetery. Family and friends will gather at 9:45 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home to proceed to the cemetery. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born October 15, 1929 in Santa Fe, she was the daughter of the late Hattie Hay Potts and "Dutch" Potts. She completed Elementary School at the Bethel School and attended Santa Fe High School, then moved to nearby Nashville. Prior to her retirement in 1985 she worked for A T & T/ Bell Atlantic Telephone Company for a 23 year period in the Nashville and Maryland areas. She and her husband made their home in Silver Spring, MD; and after retirement, they moved to Sun City Hilton Head, South Carolina in 2003. Lois has been a churchwoman all her life, working primarily with children and nursery. She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Bill Tanner; siblings: Elmer Potts of Nashville and Marie Outwater of Florida; children, Steve (Ann) Tanner of Overland Park, KS, Robert (Carol) Tanner of Santa Fe, TN, and Elaine (R.J.) Evans of Silver Spring, MD; five grandsons; and seven great grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her siblings, Barbara Burbage, N.B. Potts, Burton Potts, Earl Potts, Mack Potts, and Lucille Julian.
