Lora Ethelene Logue

Miss Lora Ethelene Logue, 96, long-time resident of Maury County, passed away Friday, May 5th, 2017 at The Bridge of Columbia. Ethelene was born on December 21, 1920 on Haley Lane in the Culleoka community.The family will visit with friends from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home on Saturday, May 13th, 2017. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, May 14th, 2017 at Polk Memorial Gardens with Jeremy Butt officiating. Ethelene was the 9th of 10 children born to Joseph and Jennie Lindsey Logue. She grew up in a rural, agricultural environment which contributed to her independence and self-determination. Attending rural schools throughout her younger years, she would later graduate from Culleoka High School in 1938 and Anderson Business School in 1939. Ethelene was hired by Mr. H. C. Isaacs at Columbia Hatchery. She worked there until 1942. At that time, she followed her younger sister, Wilma, and began working for the US War Department, Engineer Board, in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. In 1944, she returned to her previous employer, Columbia Hatchery. She assisted in starting their offices up in in St. Louis, Missouri, Atlanta, Georgia and Greenville, South Carolina. In 1949, Ethelene found her talents being placed with Stewart Supply Co. of Greenville. After a brief period spent at Keys Printing Co., she began work with Parrott & Ballentine. In 1957, Ethelene returned home to assist in caring for her parents and began working for Tennessee Valley Authority. She retired from TVA after serving over 27 years as an Administrative Assistant in the Columbia office.Ethelene was a devoted daughter and sister, kept a lovely home, was an excellent cook and enjoyed opening her home to friends and her very large extended family. She was a volunteer at Maury Regional Hospital and is recorded as having more than 17,000 hours as a volunteer, earning her the title of SuperStar.Ethelene was a beautiful example of a Christian lady. She loved the Lord and her church and was a charter member of Graymere Church of Christ. Those around her enjoyed her sweet spirit and optimistic attitude. In her later years, she spent her time in Bible study, needle work and caring for others. She continued to love life and was very thankful for the wonderful people she met and the vast experiences she was given. Survivors include: Ronnie (Lynn) Erwin, Bruce (Pam) Logue, Joe Dennis (Patricia) Logue, Louise Logue, Richard (Linda) Logue, William (Linda) Logue, Martha Faye (the late Paul) Milam, Charlotte (David) Morefield, Ann (Herbert) Myler, Audrey (the late Charlie) Nichols, Wayne (Beckie) Troope, Michael (Judy) Williams and Richard (Carol) Williams and several other nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six sisters and three brothers: Oklena (Guy) Benderman, Rena (Eugene) Erwin, Reba (Anderson) Lovell, Josephine (Leonard) Troope, Wilma (Harry) Williams and Kate (Charlie) Wood, Elmer (Nola) Logue, Hazel (Elizabeth) Logue and Herman (Gladys) Logue.Active pallbearers are Ronnie Erwin, Joe Dennis Logue, Wayne Troope and Richard Williams. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Sunday Morning Ladies Bible Study Class and the Wednesday Night Ladies Class of Graymere Church of Christ.The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of The Bridge of Columbia, her ever caring sitters, Denise Gant, Valerie Gant, Beverly Moore, Shelby Owen and Gladys Williams, the staff of Hospice Compassus and her doctor, Dr. Gaylon Harris who always took loving care of her.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Graymere Church of Christ, 1320 Trotwood Avenue, Columbia, TN 38401 or a charity of your choice.
