Mrs. Lota Louise Medkiff Young, 88, retired bookkeeper for the Middle Tennessee Bank and former long-time resident of the Culleoka Community, died Sunday, August 17, 2008 at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 a.m at Oakes & Nichols with Hueston Marshall and Jeremy Butt officiating. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Jasper Claude Medkiff and Elizabeth Foster Medkiff Bray. Mrs. Young was a member of the Church of Christ and taught Sunday School for many years. She attended services at both Scribner's Mill and Culleoka churches. She was a former member of the Culleoka Community Club, Culleoka Home Demonstration Club, and Culleoka School PTA. She loved to sew, play the piano, and working in her flower garden. She married Jack Young July 3, 1937 who died July 8, 1998. Survivors include two sons, Sherbert Hill (Harriette) Young of Memphis and James Walter (Janice) Young of Culleoka; two sisters, Virginia Norman and Jo McKee of Columbia; a brother, Jasper Evans (Olga) Medkiff of Orlando, Florida; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including her caregiver, Carolyn Turnmyre of Columbia. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Faye Attkinson and Virgie Ann Shelton; two brothers, Ewell F. Medkiff and James Perry Medkiff, Sr. Active pallbearers include family and friends. Honorary pallbearers are the Staff of Life Care Center.
