Lou Willie “Billie” Smith Ridley, 97, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2018, at the home of her daughter.Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Greg Daimwood officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.The family suggests memorials to Hospice Compassus, 830 Hatcher Lane, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.Born February 12, 1921 in Saragosa, Alabama, and reared in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Clifford Cecil Smith and the late Alice Chapman Smith Hunt. On December 11, 1942 she married William Vernon Ridley, Jr. who preceded her in death on December 24, 1976. She was a private sitter for many years and organized the sitters register for Maury Regional Hospital, which at that time was Maury County Hospital. She also had many referrals from doctors for her nursing services. Mrs. Ridley was a member of the Church of Christ.Survivors include her son, Larry W. “Pete” (Patricia) Ridley; daughter, Margaret “Sissy” (Clifford) White; grandsons, Jason Wells, Bryan (Mandi) Ridley, Billy Ridley, Willie Ridley; granddaughter, Mandy (Glyn) Stewart; and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her stepson, William Richard Ridley who passed away on August 10, 1996; sisters, Myrtle Scribner, Ruby Matthews, Bernice Warren, Mary Elizabeth Matthews, Joann Matthews, Jewell McCandless; and brothers, Elmer Claude Smith and Harry Uselton.Active pallbearers will be Eddie Kelley, Jimmy Turner, Chuck Estes, Jason Wells, Bryan Ridley, Billy Ridley, Brett Ridley, Glyn Stewart, and Adam Stewart. Honorary pallbearers will include Pame Moore Morrow, Lois Azar, Shirley Kelley, Debbie Turner, Sondra Wright, Betty Holton, Stephanie Fisher, Al & Ruth Curry, Linda White and her Bingo friends.The family would like to express a special thank you to Hospice Compassus, especially nurse Cindy Brooks and CNA Britney Chunn.
