Lucille Alice Thomas Mitchell, 100, homemaker and long-time resident of South High Street, died Sunday, June 9 2019 at Magnolia Health Care. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols with Chris Ball and Dave Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. and Wednesday from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Calvary Baptist Church, 1411 School Street, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born June 30, 1918 in the Campbellsville Community of Giles County, she was the daughter of the late Clem Thomas and the late Sara Elizabeth Estes Thomas. On June 1, 1960, she married James “Jim” Mitchell who preceded her in death September 19, 1985. For several years, she worked in the cafeteria at Jones High School in Lynnville and at one time kept children in her home. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, making friends, and gospel singings. Mrs. Mitchell was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she had taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. Survivors include her grandchildren, Dwight (Myranda) Thornton of Mt. Pleasant; Lynn Brown of Lavergne; great grandchildren, Kallee, Cody, Tyler, D.J., Brittany; one great great granddaughter; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, including Kathryn Hogan of Columbia; brother-in-law, Don Edwards of Ohio; special friend, Judy Jones Collins of Columbia; and devoted friend and long-time caregiver, Faye Hartsfield of Columbia. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by the father of her children, Willie Dee Brown; sons, Phillip Brown in 1971, and Clyde Brown in 2010; infant granddaughter, Rhonda Brown in 1965; thirteen siblings, infant brother,  Rosa Cothron, Allen Thomas, Sarah Duncan, Luther Thomas, Brownie Thomas, Kenneth Thomas, Everett Thomas, Pauline Foster, Josephine Edwards, Paxton Thomas, James Thomas, and Olivia Crass; and special friend, Linda Stewart. Active pallbearers will be Ronnie Thomas, Donnie Thomas, Tyler Brown, Jeff Hogan, Steve Collins, and David Thomas. Honorary pallbearers include Cindy Collins, Chris and Ray Stewart, Donald and Carolyn Paul, Dale Bradley, Dennis and Sandy Collins, Glenn and Mary Campbell, Jerry and Pat Hartsfield, Bobby Neese, Bruce and Betty Fisher, Landon Rummage, George Mayo, William Brown, and members of Calvary Baptist Church. The family would like to express a special thanks to Magnolia Health Care and Tim Brashears and the staff of Avalon Hospice.
