MRS. PAUL E. TILLMAN Mrs. Lucille Kirk "Teal" Tillman, 93, long-time resident of Gray Circle, died Saturday, April 3, 2004 in Cookeville where she recently made her home with her daughter. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Wendell Robinson and family members officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to The Timothy Hill Children's Ranch, 50 Wild Wood Trail, Long Island, New York 11901, or Columbia Academy, 1101 West Seventh Street, Columbia, 38401. Born on a farm in the Isom Community on Cathey's Creek in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late George Omri Kirk and Emily Jeanette Brown Kirk. She was educated in Maury County schools and was a graduate of Columbia Central High School. A member of the Church of Christ for over 80 years, she was a member of the Cathey's Creek Congregation in her early life. Later, she was a member of the West Seventh Street Church of Christ for a number of years and currently was a member of the Graymere Church of Christ. She enjoyed cooking for others and serving as a Superstar Volunteer at Maury Regional Hospital. Mrs. Tillman was a long-time employee of Gordon's Ladies Shop and Holloway's Ladies Shop and co-owner with Mr. Tillman of the Fountain Drive-In Restaurant. She was married July 3, 1937 to Paul Ewing Tillman who preceded her in death January 20, 1985. Survivors include a daughter, Rosemary (John D., II) Stites of Cookeville; a son, Wallace Kirk (Kay) Tillman of Culleoka; five grandchildren, Kimberly Kirk Tillman of Flower Mound, Texas, Kelly (David) Shewmaker of Leawood, Kansas, Jonathan Wesley (Ashlee) Stites of Southlake, Texas, David Kirk (Candice) Stites of Cookeville, Benjamin Tillman (Elizabeth) Stites of Cookeville; five great-grandchildren, Madison Taylor Shewmaker, Elizabeth Brooke Shewmaker, Emerson Kate Stites, Sadie Caroline Stites, Anna Kathryn Stites; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert Ewing Tillman; two sisters, Mrs. W. E. (Hinda) McClellan and Mrs. Charles (Betty) Walker; and a brother, Paul Kirk. Active pallbearers are Jim Cook, Don Harmon, Dick Stowers, Dr. Charles Walker, Jr., William Claude Kirk, William Edward McClellan, George O. McClellan, Kenny Latta. Honorary pallbearers include Sue Foster, Dorothy Jean Witherow, Rosie Edwards, John Stites, Jack Stites, Donnie Davidson, Mike Hunter, Dr. Wayne Tipps.
