Luther P Jones

December 11, 1925 — January 28, 2006

Mr. Luther Porter "Bill" Jones, 80, retired employee of Monsanto, died Saturday, January 28, 2006, at his residence on Williamsport Pike. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Anthony Muston and Rev. Harvel Stockard officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Monday from 2:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The Maury County native was the son of the late Jim Jones and Maude Love Jones. He served in the U. S. Army. Mr. Jones never met a stranger and loved all his friends dearly, especially Bon Aqua Hoedown friends whom he would meet each Friday night prior to his illness. Survivors include his wife of fifty-five years, Mary Potts Jones of Columbia; one daughter, Marilyn (Tommy) Beard of Columbia; two sons, Ricky Porter (Pam) Jones and Tracy Allen (Missy) Jones, both of Columbia; two brothers, Clifford Jones and Frank Jones, both of Mt. Pleasant; two sisters, Elise "Bobby" (Glynn) Anderson and Arlene (Owen) Wells, both of Columbia; five grandchildren, Lindsey Jones, Luke Jones, Caleb (Lacey) Beard, Aftan (Scotty) Faulkner, Anna Jones; one great grandchild, Beckham Faulkner; and two sisters-in-law, Sue Jones of Lewisburg; Charlotte Jones of Mt. Pleasant. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Herbert Jones, Howard Jones, and Ewell Jones; and three sisters, Eva Witherspoon, Lela Hinson, and Rachel Jones. Pallbearers will be Mike Anderson, Sonny Jones, Mark Jones, Doug Wells, Greg McMinnis, James Earl Jones, Wimpy Jones, Charles Sullivan, Paul Gibson, Larry Potts, and John Walter Hutchison. Honorary pallbearers will be brothers-in-law, nephews, employees and retired employees of Monsanto, caretakers at Hospice of Highland Rim, friends of Bon Aqua Hoedown, Joe Foust, Bill Bridges, Mike Rans, Jerry Kennedy, Strut Davis, Jim Powell, Gary Mathis, Jimmy Goodman, Billy Anderson, Robert George, Van Boshers, Columbia Oncology Group, and Dr. James Kelley. The family would like to express a special thanks to all their friends for their loving support throughout his illness.
