Luther Young Mr. Luther W. Young, 84, retired mechanic and owner of L.W. Young Machine Shop, died Tuesday at his residence on Cheyenne Trail. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Friday at West End Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Collins officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home and Friday from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The McComb, Mississippi native was the son of the late Jesse Monroe Young and Bessie Easley Young. He was first married to Ruby Lee Wortham Young who preceded him in death March 21, 1983. He served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II and was a member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. He was a charter member of West End Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Beulah Duke Young of Columbia; one daughter, Janice (Greg) Ollick of Grayson, Georgia; one son, Doug (Mary Frances) Young of Columbia; one step-son, David (Terri) Bolton of Florence, Alabama; one grandson, Bryan Young of Franklin; two step-grandchildren, Gregory R. Ollick, Jr. of Jackson, Mississippi and Kara A. Ollick of Fuzon, China; one sister, Christine McKee of Spring Hill; and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Everett (Louise) Young of Columbia. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Young, three brothers, Robert Young, Lane Young, Everett Young and one sister, Mrs. Agnes Young Smith. Pallbearers will be Brad Caswell, Lester Cathey, Richard Young, Ronnie Young, Billy Webb Smith, Andy McKee, Scott McKee and Carl Brooks. Honorary pallbearers will be Huey Murphy, Bobby Chance, Mozelle Haywood, Joe Easley, Vera Easley, Wayne Hickman, Charles Pratt, William "Bill" Morris, Wanda Morris and girls, Houston Crozier, LeRoy Gibson, Connie Himes, Donna Fagan, John Jackson, Harold Lucas, Robert Hooten, Sally Tyler, Bill Rainey, Dennis Hardison, Clarence and Louise Long, Jack Cecil, Dr. Jamie Slandzicki and staff, employees of Edward's Oil Company, employees at the downtown branch of Bank of America, Maury County Ambulance Service, Columbia Firestation #3, and members of West End Baptist Church.
