Lynnette "Lynn" Stephens Mayfield, 74, went home to be with our Lord on Friday, August 16, 2013, in Corinth, Texas. She was born May 26, 1939, near Fayetteville, NC, to Dorothy and G.W. Stephens. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 27, at the Delk Cemetery near Kettle Mills in Maury County. Lynn retired from Howard Hughes Medical Institute in Dallas where she worked as a synthetic organic chemist. She attended Wake Forest University and the University of North Carolina on scholarship, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Oklahoma University. During her career, she wrote and co-authored over 25 scientific publications, as well as, obtained her Teaching and Cytology certifications. She was a past Vice President of a biochemistry lab, was listed in "Who's Who in American Women" (1985-1987), and, served two terms on the Corinth City Council (2003-2007).She is survived by her husband of 19 years, Jim Mayfield; one brother, Ronald Stephens of Prattville, AL; three daughters, Stephanie Rose of Bakersfield, CA, Melanie Bristow of Corinth, TX, and Kerri Blevins of Shady Shores, TX; and six grandchildren.
