View Video Tribute View Funeral Webcast M. Patterson Smith, known by all as Pat, was born on January 19, 1955 and departed this life on October 14, 2019. Although born in Birmingham, AL, he spent his life in Lewisburg, TN and Columbia, TN. He was the son of the late Marvin P. Smith, Sr. and the late Lola Irene Rawlinson Smith. An infant sister, Ollie Gail Smith, preceded him in death. Pat started working at a very young age of 13 at The Hut. He continued his work at Big Al, Beech and Son Bestway, Merihill Nursing Home, JRN Corp., Maury Co. Board of Education, and the State of Tennessee. Pat graduated from Marshall County Senior High School in 1973, Columbia State Community College, and Trevecca College, with a BS in Human Resource. Pat was a proud and faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, after moving his membership from the First Presbyterian Church in Lewisburg. Pat served as a Sunday School Teacher, and an Elder in both churches at various times. He was a loyal member of the Choir as well. Pat lived by the Bible verse, “I was a stranger and you took me in; I was hungry and you fed me.” He gave many a place to call home who needed a helping hand. Pat was always an ear to those who sought his words of comfort and assurance things will be alright. Pat would want all to remember him for his genuine kindness and true friendship. Pat had an extraordinary gift of memory of anyone he met. He would know your whole family history before you parted ways. He enjoyed trying to connect the family lineage to his own or to someone else he knew. His love of buying antiques was only superseded by his love for cooking and entertaining. He cherished his memoires of being an active participant in the Marshall County Community Theater and the different roles he got to perform in six of the productions. Pat would be quick to tell you that his best pals were his pet dogs; Brandon by his side and the late E.I. and late Oscar. Pat is survived by his sisters, Evelyn Mize, Columbia, TN, LaDelle Smith and Hellen Smith, Lewisburg, TN, and his nephew Clint Mize of New York, NY and a host of friends. A memorial service will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church in Columbia with Reverend Robert Montgomery officiating.
