MARCUS E. PEERY Marcus Ervin Peery, 32, manager of Peery Farms in the Culleoka Community, died Saturday, June 14, 2003 at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Elmer Crosby and Rev. R. J. Clark officiating. Burial will be in the Brown Cemetery in Lewis County. The family will visit with friends after 5:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Marcus Peery Memorial Scholarship Fund of the Culleoka FFA Alumni Asociation, in care of Judy Hickman, Treasurer, First Farmer & Merchants National Bank, 816 South Garden Street, Columbia, 38401.Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native began his involvement in agriculture as a grade school student when he showed cattle and swine in the 4-H Club. He also participated in public speaking and leadership training camp. His agricultural education continued in high school when he joined the Future Farmers of America, serving as reporter and President of the Culleoka Chapter and attained the highest level of achievement by a member, the American Farmer Degree. After his graduation from Culleoka High School in 1988, he enrolled in Columbia State Community College majoring in Agriculture and was very involved in activities of the Baptist Student Center. After completing two years at CSCC, he served a tour of duty in the U. S. Army. He entered Middle Tennessee State University and earned a B.S. Degree in Agriculture Business and Agriculture Education in 1994. Following graduation he began work as manager of Peery Farms. At the age of ten he became a member of Friendship Baptist Church and was involved in youth group activities. He was a lifetime member of the Culleoka FFA Alumni Association and Maury County Farm Bureau. Survivors include his parents, Hugh and Carolyn Dowdy Peery of Culleoka; a sister, Regina Lynn Peery of Columbia; two brothers, Nathan Hugh (Elizabeth) Peery of Fayetteville and Byron Jackson (Jenny) Peery of Culleoka; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Lucille Wynne Dowdy of Lawrenceburg; five nieces, Makayla Peery, Adrianna Peery, Janie Peery, Katie Peery and Libby Peery. Active pallbearers are Jeff Harris, Ronnie Harris, Kevin Rose, Cam Johnson, Ken Jordan, J. D. Lineberry, Eddie Chumbley, Brian ?Bear? Morrow. Honorary pallbearers include John Devine, Richard Groce, Richard Callahan, Donald Scott, Matt Foster and members of the Culleoka FFA Alumni.
