Margaret Gibbs Davis was born July 12, 1930 in Smith County, Tennessee the daughter of the late John Herman Gibbs and Ruth McKinney Gibbs. She was a graduate of Gordonsville High School where she excelled as an All-State basketball player. Following graduation from the St. Thomas School of Nursing, she began her career as a registered nurse at Nuehoff Packing Company and later served as Administrator at Hill Haven Nursing Home in Nashville. Mrs. Davis retired from the State of Tennessee where she served as a nursing instructor and in the Department of Medicare Fraud & Abuse. She was a communicant of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Columbia and formerly St. David's Episcopal Church in Nashville. She was known for her great wit and good humor which extended through to her life at The Bridge and Life Care Center of Columbia. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and sister and took great delight in all her family, especially her three grandchildren. She was married August 15, 1952 to W. Louis Davis, III who died in January, 1996. She was also preceded in death by seven brothers, Hubert Gibbs, Herbert Gibbs, Clyde Gibbs, William Gibbs, Douglas Gibbs, Frank Gibbs, and Ernest Gibbs; and two sisters, Flossie Jackson and Gladys Preston. Survivors include her son, W. Louis (Mary Joe) Davis, IV of Columbia; grandchildren, William Louis "Will" Davis, V of New Orleans, Margaret Louise "Marley" Davis and Crockett Wilhite Davis, both of Columbia; sisters, Jean (Lloyd) Petty of Brush Creek and Betty (John) Mason of Gordonsville; sisters-in-law, Zelta Gibbs of Ocala, Florida and Louise D. (Dr. J. Emmitt) Dozier of Franklin; many nieces and nephews.
