Margaret Proctor Spears Maddux

Mrs. Margaret Proctor Spears Maddux, retired from General Electric, died Sunday, August 12, 2007 at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 12:00 noon at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. John Rushing officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 2000 Charlotte Avenue, Nashville 37203-2003 or Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19, 812 Nashville Highway, Columbia 38401. Notes of sympathy may be sent towww.oakesandnichols.com. The Dickson County native was the daughter of the late Ira Lee Proctor and Della Rockwell Proctor. She was a long-time member of Northside Baptist Church and was active in and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was first married August 11, 1945 to Joe L. Spears, who died August 6, 1974. On May 6, 1977 she married Robert L. Maddux, who died July 6, 1987. Survivors include a son, Joe Dean (Sharon) Spears of Murfreesboro; a granddaughter, Heather (Michael) Greenwood of Lavergne; a grandson, Billy Joe (Angela) Spears of Columbia; four great-grandchildren, Jessica Spears and Kolbey Spears, both of Columbia, Tyler Greenwood and Avery Greenwood, both of Lavergne. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Crunk and two brothers, Leon Proctor and Clifford Proctor. Family and friends will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include the American Legion Auxiliary.
