Mrs. Margaret Hyatt May, 77, former resident of Columbia, died Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at her residence in Covington, Georgia. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Saturday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Ricky Clay officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. Mrs. May was born in Lawrence County and reared in Giles County, the daughter of the late Charlie William Hyatt and Rosa Deleader Green Hyatt. On May 6, 1949 she married Richard F. May who preceded her in death November 2, 2004. She was a retired advertising agent for the Rockdale Citizen newspaper in Georgia. She enjoyed sewing, needlework, reading, cooking and gardening. She loved to shop and fellowship with her friends and family. She was an avid walker and walked for the Georgia Heart Association. Mrs. May had a passion for life and was an inspiration to all who knew her. She was a member of Conyers church of Christ in Georgia. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deleda M. and Jimmy Wilkins of Conyers, Georgia; grandchildren, Shelley Wilkins, Julie and Nick Austin all of Covington, GA, Tiffany and Stephen Vaughan of Conyers, GA; sisters, Iva Bradley of Nashville, Ruth and Joe Norman of Culleoka; brother, Wayne Hyatt of Hendersonville; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Robert Johnson, Lawrence Johnson, Tommy Hyatt, Leon Cothran, George Johnson and Mike Ballentine.
