Marie Barnett Bland, 98, retired employee of Helm's Jewelry and former longtime resident of Sharondale Drive, died Friday, December 15, 2017, at Gallatin Health Care in Gallatin, where she had made her home for the past few years. A memorial service will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at Westminster Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jeff Kane officiating. Inurnment will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. Following the service, the family will visit with friends Saturday from 12:00 - 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Born April 16, 1919 in Clarksburg, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Walter Barnett and the late Dora Raybuck Barnett. On August 1, 1939, she married Roscoe James Bland who preceded her in death on December 4, 2000. She was a 1937 graduate of Clarksburg High School in Clarksburg, WV. Mrs. Bland was employed as bookkeeper with Grant's Department Store for a few years prior to her fourteen-year career as a watchmaker with Helm's Jewelry. She had been a very active volunteer with Harvest Food Bank and Good Samaritan of Maury County. She was also a former member of the Wagon Wheelers Square Dancers. Mrs. Bland was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she had been active in the Women's Association and had served as Sunday School teacher and Youth Leader. Survivors include her daughter, Marcia (Bill) Mays of Gallatin; sister, Mildred "Midge" Wood of Shelton, Washington; granddaughters, Shelley Mays (Mandy) of Atlanta, Georgia; Shannon Mays Beavers of Gallatin; grandson, Sean (Ellen) Mays of Dekalb, Illinois; great grandchildren, Annabella Mays, Andrew Mays, Kyle Mays, Ryan Mays, Jeremy Mays, Juliette Beavers, Parker Mays; nephew, Gary Barnett; and sisters-in-law, Georgia Barnett and Susie Barnett. She was preceded in death by brothers, Dallas Barnett and Douglas Barnett.
