Marie McDonald Dowell

Mrs. Marie McDonald Dowell, owner-operator of Marie's Beauty Shop for many years and resident of Nashville Highway, died Saturday, October 13, 2007 at Maury Regional Hospital. Graveside services will be conducted Monday at 3:00 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev. Bob Adair officiating. A native of Madison, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Edward Irvin McDonald and Lillie Ludell Helton McDonald. Mrs. Dowell was a devoted member and active in the affairs of Highland Park Baptist Church for many years and a member of the Jubilee Sunday School Class. Survivors include daughters, Paulette (Ashley) Brown of Columbia and Carolyn (David) Cheek of Lynnville; son, John Edward Dowell of Columbia; sister, Ruby (Gordon) Rothernel of Deland, Florida; granddaughter, Tracey (Marty) Peery of Lynnville; grandson, Briant (Jayme) Cheek of Pulaski; great-grandchildren, Chesley Cummings of Lynnville and Houston Cheek of Pulaski. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Paul Dowell November 20, 1981; and grandson, Michael Todd Brown; granddaughter, Shannon Cheek; sister, Pauline McDonald; and brothers, John McDonald and Morgan McDonald. Honorary pallbearers include close friend and Sunday School teacher, Georgia McCaleb, Nell Fitzgerald, sitters and caregiver, Jennifer Armstrong, Juanita Matthews, Rhonda Turrentine, and Carrie Pendergrast.
