View Funeral WebcastMarilyn Pitts Smith, 64, former resident of Coffee County, died Friday, September 15, 2017, at her home in Dallas, Oregon. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 12:00 noon at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery in Manchester. The family will visit with friends Monday from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born December 28, 1952 in Bastrop, Louisiana, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Wyatt Pitts and the late Dorothy Alberta Williamson Pitts. She attended Louisiana State University where she majored in horticulture. She loved her profession and used her skills working at Lowe's in the Gardening Department for many years. She also taught horticulture on television while living in Tennessee. Marilyn will be remembered for her big heart and her love of family. Survivors include her husband of fourteen years, Michael Balok; daughter and beloved best friend, Sarah Smith (Stan Teets); mother-in-law, Joann Christensen; granddaughter, Venessa (Jesse) Christenson; great grandchildren, Harper Royal Christenson and Evan Christenson; sister, Colleen Mace of Arizona; brother, Mike (Tammy) Pitts of Louisiana; aunt, Daisy McAdams; uncle, Bud Williamson; and many, many extended family and friends whom she loved. She was preceded in death by mother-in-law, Vivian Barker and father-in-law, Royal Teets.
