Mary Frances Hickman Petty, 93, resident of Columba, died Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at NHC Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with John Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Lynnwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born July 12, 1924 in Giles County, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late John Thomas Hickman, Jr. and the late Myrtle Crick Hickman. On May 14, 1947, she married Robert McCoy “Bud” Petty, Sr. who preceded her in death April 25, 1979. She was a graduate of Jones High School. Mrs. Petty worked for several grocery stores including, Riverside Market, Akins Market, H. G. Hills, and retired from Super Rama Foods. She was a member of Eastside Church of Christ. Survivors include her son, Robert M. (Debbie H.) Petty, Jr of Columbia; sister, Jessie Underwood of Elkmont, Alabama; grandchildren, Paul J. (Jodi) Lis of Toledo, Ohio; Tabitha L. (James) Chambers of Garnett, Kansas; five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Ollie Hickman; Brown Hickman; Edward Hickman; Raymond Hickman; and Wilburn Hickman. Active pallbearers will be Larry Petty, Jimmy Underwood, Billy Underwood, Terry Hickman, Bobby Hickman, and Thomas Hickman. Honorary pallbearers include past members of Eastside Church of Christ and members, elders, and deacons of Southgate Church of Christ.
