Martha Edna Pennington Gidcomb, 84, homemaker and long-time resident of Mingo Branch, died Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at NHC- Hendersonville. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 3:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Mark Pennington officiating. Burial will follow in Santa Fe Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. and Friday from 2:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born July 19, 1932 in Hickman County, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late A.B. Pennington and the late Annie Rosson Pennington. She married Jess Gidcomb who preceded her in death September 23, 2004. She attended Leatherwood School, Water Valley School, and was a 1950 graduate of Santa Fe High School. Mrs. Gidcomb taught Sunday School for over 25 years, enjoyed writing and gardening.Survivors include her daughters, Pam (Gerry) Skillington of Athens, Alabama; Nonie (Morgan) Machunze of Gallatin; grandchildren, Marie (David) Overman, Leah Moore; great grandchildren, Ryan Overman, Alex Overman; sister, Carolyn Gardner; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Elizabeth, Ralph, Felicia, Chet, Charles, A.B., Cathy, and Ann. Active pallbearers will be Danny Fox, Alan Fox, Chad Fox, Mike Wall, David Wall, James Toungett, Michael Dodson, Jimmy Humphrey. Honorary pallbearers include her nieces and nephews, Charles and Gail Pigg, Steve Givens, Sheryl Grooms, Sylvia Givens, Byron White, Jeff McGee, Randall and Lynn Humphrey, and Rose Priest.
