Martha Leaka Brown Hood

Martha Leaka Brown Hood, 87, longtime resident of Nashville Highway, died Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at Life Care Center of Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 4:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Kenny McFarlen officiating. Burial will be Monday in Brown Cemetery on Hardison Mill Road. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 2:00 - 4:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born September 22, 1930, in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Massey Edgar Brown and the late Ruth Hardison Brown. On August 8, 1947, she married Paul Richard Hood who preceded her in death July 29, 2001. Mrs. Hood was a member of New Lasea Church of Christ. Survivors include her daughters, Patricia McMurtry of Columbia, Kathy (David) DeShazo of Mobile, Alabama, Martha Anne Hood of Columbia; sister, Barbara Willems of Arizona; grandchildren, Shannon (Michael) Johnson of Greenbrier, Wendy (Greg) Caylor of Springfield, Chris (Lin) Boshers of Chattanooga, Laura (Justin) Allen of Bethpage, Phillip (Mary) Jernigan of Murfreesboro, Julie Jernigan of Franklin, Kentucky; niece, Carolyn Hood of Columbia; twelve great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.
