Martha Jane Tucker Hines

Martha Jane Tucker Hines, 98, died May 5, 2022 at Life Care of Columbia. A memorial service for Mrs. Hines will be conducted at a later date. Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Conner James Tucker and Ruth Lamb Tucker. On October 16, 1954, she married Richard Harwell Hines, who preceded her in death November 6, 1976. The 1941 graduate of Columbia Central High School attended Ward-Belmont School and the University of Miami, Florida. Mrs. Hines was employed at The Daily Herald for over thirty years, the last two years as editor. She had served on the board of First Farmers & Merchants Bank and the Senior Citizens Center. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she had served as a deacon. Survivors include her daughter, Virginia Hines of San Francisco, California; son, Albert M. (Leslie) Hines of New Alexandria, Pennsylvania; granddaughters, Christine Hines, Kathryn Hines, Rebecca Hines, Rachael Hines. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Ruth Tucker Petty and Peggy Tucker Pierce.
