Martha Jean Woody, 70, retired Maury County School Teacher and former longtime resident of Columbia, died Saturday in Indian Rocks Beach, Florida, where she had made her home since April. A graveside service will be conducted Monday, September 30, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at Santa Fe Cemetery with Reverend Steve Dorning officiating. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 3:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. at Oakes and Nichols Funeral Home. Oakes and Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements. Born October 27, 1948 in Maury County, she was the daughter Samuel Jefferson Woody and Elizabeth Joyce Woody. She was blessed to have grown up in the Santa Fe community where she was nurtured by amazing family and friends. She was the valedictorian of Santa Fe High School Class of 1966 and graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Miss Woody taught for 30 years, mostly at Spring Hill High School. She was a member of Santa Fe Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her brother, Fred Newton Woody of Indian Rocks Beach, FL; her nephews, William Jefferson (Denise) Woody of Atlanta, GA, Jason Warner Woody of Columbia, TN; her great nieces, Emily Frances Woody, Elizabeth Claire Woody; sister-in-law, Ann Woodlie Rose, all of whom she loved dearly. Also, she leaves her love to the extended Woody and Joyce families who made her life so rich. She was preceded in death by her cherished parents, Jefferson and Elizabeth Woody, her beloved brother William Wayne Woody, and her sisters-in-law, Becky Woody and Diane Dietrich each of whom meant so much to her also.
