Mary Jean Kinnard Alexander, 75, retired teacher and resident of Zion Road, died Monday, November 28, 2016, at Vanderbilt Medical Center. A graveside service will be conducted Friday at 2:30 P.M. at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with Rev. Anthony Thomas, Sr. officiating. Born June 1, 1941, in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Kinnard and Magdalene Browne Kinnard. She was a graduate of Carver Smith High School, attended Tennessee State University, and earned her Bachelor's degree from Middle Tennessee State University. For over thirty years, she taught English and Title 1 at Whitthorne Middle School; and upon retirement received a certificate from the Tennessee Education Association for her many years of active contribution to the purposes and achievements of education. She enjoyed reading, playing bridge and solitaire. She was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church. Survivors include her son, Harry W. (Tiffani) Alexander of Columbia; grandchildren, André McCoy, Stephon McCoy, and Cory McCoy, all of Columbia; step grandchildren, T'Kashli (Jonathan) Cooper and T'Darius Blue, both of Columbia; two great grandchildren; one step great grandchild; and a host of devoted friends, including Mary Armstrong, Pam Steward, Amanda Arnell, Wilma Polk, and Jennie Mitchell.
