Mary Ann Neal Bailey

Mary Ann Neal Bailey, 71 a retired nurse of over 20 years at Maury Regional Medical Center and longtime resident of Maury County, passed on Wednesday December 11, 2019 at Maury Regional Medical.  She was educated through the Maury County School system and graduated from Clarke High School and went on to earn her nursing degree from Columbia State Community College. The body will lie in state on Monday December 16th from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. The funeral services will be Tuesday at 12:00 p.m. at Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church 808 W. 6th St. here in Columbia.  The burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens. *Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com Mary Ann was born July 11, 1948 in Maury County.  She was the daughter of the late Robert Hugh Neal and the late Mary Bell Neal. After retiring from nursing, Mrs. Bailey continued to do in-home nursing for friends and family for several years.  She was a faithful supporter of the Kids Fighting Aids Foundation for many years.  And, a strong advocate for helping find food and shelter for the homeless in the community.  She was a long-time member of the Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church.  And, in her later years she fellowshipped with the Bellafant Tabernacle Church here in Columbia. She is survived by her son Karry (Cheryl) Neal of Columbia: daughter Karin (Undra) McCoy of Columbia; sisters Katie Murphy of Columbia, Ponsella Neal of Nashville, TN and Pauline Williams of Memphis, TN; 3 grandchildren; Jamar, Jalessa and Javaris Neal;  and devoted cousins Karen (Randolph) Lockridge, Lavonne Mayes, Shelia (Nebis) Andrews and Bernie Mayes. And devoted friends Cleophas Bailey, Mary Ruth Horton, Anna Martha Webster, Lillie Sue Mitchell, Mr. & Mrs. Richard Crawford, Rebecca Vinson, Jean M. Conger, Ms. Willie Mae McCoy, Judy Pierce, Ms. Willie Jean Glenn, Gladys Holt, Vivian Williams, Mr. Kendall Alderson, Vaughinta Johnson, and Nellie B. Watson; and countless other friends and family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Henry Neal; grandmother Katie Anderson; devoted cousin, Jackie Mayes; and devoted aunt and uncle, Mr. & Mrs. Clark Mayes. The family would like to express a special thanks to the Doctors, Nurses (especially nurse Janet) at Maury Regional Medical Center and Magnolia Healthcare Rehabilitation staff.
