Mary Nelle Johnson Black, 84, former resident of Rally Hill Road, died Friday, June 23, 2017 at Life Care Center of Columbia.Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 10:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with John Waldrum officiating. Burial will follow in Jones Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 3:00 - 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born August 28, 1932 in Maury County, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Granville Walker Johnson and the late Nona Palon Johnson. She was a graduate of Spring Hill School and retired secretary for Kelly Services. After retirement, she enjoyed working on her farm that she loved so much raising registered Hereford cows. An avid artist, she won several awards at many county fairs. Mrs. Black was a member of the American Hereford Association and Browns Chapel Church of Christ. Survivors include her son, Kenny Harmon of Columbia; daughter, Linda (Mark) Ryan of Bowie, Maryland; brother, Arnold Johnson of California; sister, Carol Bybee of Columbia; grandchildren, Dewaena Lee, Shannon Ryan, Michael Ryan; great grandchildren, Joshua Lee, Fred Blahut, Amelia Blahut, Daniel Blahut; and several nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy James Black in 1995; father of her children, Kenny Harmon in 1972; and brother, Fred Johnson in 2013.Active pallbearers will be family and friends including, Johnathon Waldrum, Jay Burns, Thomas Burns, and Eric McCandles.
