Mary Blair Kennedy Greer, 93, passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2019 in Columbia. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 1:30 P.M. at Anderson-Stephenson-Hunt Cemetery in the Shady Grove Community with Charlie Willis officiating. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 12:30 P.M. – 1:30 P.M. at the graveside. A native of Maury County, she was born March 25, 1925 in the community of Kettle Mills. She was the daughter of the late George Alexander Kennedy and the late Mary Blanche Farris Kennedy. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 72 years Fred Anderson Greer; brothers, Richard Anderson Kennedy; Carl Brown Kennedy, Paul Kennedy, Cecil Farris Kennedy; and sister, Alice Olivia Kennedy. Mrs. Greer is survived by her three daughters, Georgia Greer (Rick) Crawford of Hendersonville, TN, Frieda Greer (Joel) Locke of Franklin TN and Elizabeth Blair Greer of Nashville, TN; three grandchildren, Richard (Niki) Crawford, Jr., Elizabeth Locke (Joseph) Etherton, and Joel Locke, Jr.; two great grandchildren, William Walker Etherton and Monroe Greer Etherton. A 1943 graduate of Hampshire High School, she was a homemaker and caregiver to her family, long-standing member of the National DAR Tenassee Chapter, First Families of Tennessee, Town & Country Garden Club and past employee at Burt’s Dress Shop in Columbia. Mrs. Greer was a longtime member of the Shady Grove Church of Christ and also later a member of Graymere Church of Christ. She especially loved the study of genealogy and had researched the family history extensively. Having compiled a library of information and memorabilia that has been archived, it will be used and referenced for generations to come. Mrs. Greer was an avid reader of all kinds of literature, poetry, and especially daily Bible devotions. She was also an excellent cook and her family and friends enjoyed many wonderful meals she graciously served at her table. Active pallbearers will be Richard M. Crawford, Jr., Richard M. Crawford, Sr., Clement Ledbetter, Gary C. Ledbetter, Joel R. Locke, Jr., and Joel R. Locke, Sr. Honorary pallbearers will include Robbie Sue Booker, Faye Borum, Lura Blair Kennedy Elder, Lucy Derr Ledbetter, Frances Kennedy Logsdon, Ruth Farris Tart, and her niece Cecelia Kennedy Willis. A special thanks is extended for the kind, gracious care given by physicians, nurses, staff and health care providers during these past months. The family suggests a memorial may be made to the Old Well Cemetery, Old Cathey Cemetery, or the American Legion Post 19.
