Mrs. Mary Kerr Canaan, 80, retired school teacher and resident of Cool Springs Blvd. in Franklin, died Monday, June 26, 2006 at NHC Place at Cool Springs. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Sally Hughes officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 10 - 11a.m. at the church. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Canaan was born in West Palm Beach, Florida and raised in Oxford, Alabama the daughter of the late Walter Bratton Kerr and Luma Draper Kerr. On June 21, 1952 she married John Hisey "Jack" Canaan, Jr. who preceded her in death November 14, 1992. She was a graduate of Auburn University where she was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority. Mrs. Canaan was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. Survivors include one daughter Jeannine Canaan (Mike) Rose of Franklin; two sons, John H. (Vickie) Canaan, III of Smyrna, Walter Davidson "Dave" (Joetta) Canaan of Charlotte, NC; one sister, Ruth Park of Oxford, AL; two brothers, Tom Kerr of Louden and Allen Kerr of Mobile, AL; and eight grandchildren, Alex Canaan, Lucas Canaan, Caleb Canaan all of Smyrna, Michael (Kristi) Rose, III, Cole Rose, Chris Rose all of Franklin; Logan Canaan and Jackson Canaan both of Charlotte, NC. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
