Mary Ophelia Whitley Counts, 69, former seamstress at River Valley Mills and resident of Cemetery Avenue, died Friday, May 9, 2008 at Rosewood Manor. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 3:30 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Bob Adair officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and after 10:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Wilburn Phinis Whitley, Sr. and Nellie Ophelia Maddox Whitley and a 1957 graduate of Columbia Central High School. Survivors include a daughter, Lori Ann Counts (Billy) Swaw of White Bluff; a sister, Sadie Mae Hancock of Columbia; 3 brothers, Wilburn (Tamiko) Whitley, Jr., Otis (Mildred) Whitley, and Bennie Whitley, all of Columbia; 3 grandchildren, Brittany Counts, Austin Swaw, and Lindsey Swaw, all of White Bluff; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Willie B. Whitley. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
