Mary Pal Kirk Demastus

January 23, 1921 — July 28, 2008

Mrs. Mary Pal Kirk Demastus, 87, retired co-owner and operator of Home Furniture Company and resident of Windsor Drive, died Monday, July 28, 2008 at Maury Regional Hospital. A graveside service will be conducted at 12:30 P.M. Friday, August 8, 2008 at Polk Memorial Gardens with Brother Danny McConnell officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 10 -12 at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. A native of Pocahontas, Tennessee, she was raised in Selmer, Tennessee and was the daughter of the late Napolean A. Kirk and Madie Howell Kirk. On June 25, 1940 she married John Demastus who preceded her in death on May 1, 2007. She was a graduate of Selmer High School where she was very involved in the athletic program. Mrs. Demastus loved children and enjoyed cooking delicious meals for her family and friends. One of her favorite pastimes was playing Scrabble which she continued to play in her later years. She was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Linda Anderson and Sandra (M.D.) Henslee, both of Columbia; one sister, Beatrice Tackett of Selmer, Tennessee; five grandchildren, James (Melia) Anderson of Mt. Juliet; Dan Henslee of Columbia; David (Michelle) Henslee of Hermitage; Kirk (Pamela) Anderson of Nashville; Jessica Demastus of Des Moines, Iowa; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, John Kirk Demastus; one brother and five sisters. Pallbearers will be James Anderson, Dan Henslee, David Henslee, Kirk Anderson, Chase Henslee, Justin Henslee, Chris Henslee, and Ryne Anderson.
