View Funeral WebcastMrs. Mary Elizabeth Howell Brooks, 66, resident of Enterprise Road in Mt. Pleasant, died Monday, June 8, 2009 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. John H. Rushing officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Mynders Volunteer Fire Department, 3612 Bigbyville Rd., Columbia, TN 38401. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Charles Ira Howell and Frances Riley Howell. She was a 1960 graduate of Culleoka High School. On November 15, 1961 she married John Tillman Brooks who preceded her in death January 11, 2001. After retiring from Weather Tamer Mrs. Brooks was a private sitter for the elderly. Throughout her life she loved dancing and traveling. Mrs. Brooks was a member of Northside Baptist Church. Survivors include her daughter, Wanda (Tim) Clark of Culleoka; son, John T. Brooks, Jr. of Hohenwald; sisters, Wanda Gail (David) Pray of Allen Park, Michigan, Sandra (William) Lambrix of Mt. Pleasant; brother, Gary N. (Theresa) Howell of Rockwood, Michigan; sisters-in-law Gena Chungae Howell of Hinesville, Georgia and Linda Brooks (Ray) Hutcherson of Columbia; brothers-in-law, Carl (Margaret) Brooks and Bobby (Barbara) Brooks of Columbia; grandsons, Timothy Clark, Jr. and Randall (Mandy) Clark both of Culleoka; great-granddaughter, Allyssa Clark of Culleoka; and several nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles I. Howell, Jr. and brother-in-law, Jerry Brooks. Active pallbearers will be Roger Howell, Carl Mills, George Lambrix, Tim Clark, Jr., Randall Clark, Ray Hutcherson, Tommy Collier, Jr. and Charlie Collier. Honorary pallbearers include Stanley Kelley, Wade Boshers, Eddie Dean Kelley, members of the Maury County Rural Fire Department and members of Northside Baptist Church.
