Mary Jennifer Harwell, 46, died Thursday, November 4, 2010 at her residence in Columbia following an extended illness. A celebration of her life will be held Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with The Rev. Thomas Wilson and The Rev. Richard Zalesak officiating. The family will visit with friends immediately following the service in the Parish Hall. The Prayer Garden at St. Peter's Church is dedicated to her father, the late Dr. Valton C. Harwell, Jr. The family suggests that memorials be directed to the St. Peter's Prayer Garden Fund, 311 West Seventh Street, Columbia 38401. She was a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Vanderbilt University and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She was also a graduate of Vanderbilt Law School and had a particular interest in healthcare law. Jennifer loved learning, the beach, walking in the snow and had a love for all animals, especially her dog, Bonnie Blue. Survivors include her mother, Van McRady Harwell (James) Callaway of Walland, Tennessee; brother, David C. (Bessie) Harwell of Huntsville, Alabama; sisters, Susan Harwell of Columbia and Lisa Van Harwell of Maryville; nephews, William Johnston and Tyler Harwell and a niece, Jessica Johnston.
