View Funeral WebcastMary Ruth Lentz, 89, former longtime resident of Birchwood Drive, died Saturday, May 6, 2017, at her daughter's residence in Hohenwald where she had made her home for the past several years. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Ron Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Monday from 11:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late William Carter Sweeney and the late Lola Mae Williams Sweeney. She was a graduate of Culleoka High School. On October 26, 1946, she married James W. Lentz who preceded her in death October 23, 2005. Following her husband's retirement from the U. S. Air Force, they made their home in Columbia until his death at which time she moved to Hohenwald. Her Yorkshire terrier Gigi had been her faithful companion for the past twelve years. An excellent seamstress, Mrs. Lentz was employed at Storktowne, later known as Weather Tamer, until her retirement. She loved sewing, cooking, and spending time in her yard with her flowers. She was very sentimental and enjoyed making photo albums and scrapbooks, collecting trinkets, making quilts, embroidering pillowcases, to name a few. She saved all the "little" things that were meaningful to her, keeping them close to her heart. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends, and just talking on the phone with them. It took very little to make her happy. She understood family and making precious memories were most important in life. In her last years of life, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She attended Highland Avenue Church of Christ in Columbia and Hohenwald Church of Christ in Hohenwald. Survivors include her daughter, Gina Lentz Hensley of Hohenwald; grandchildren, Jenna Hensley, Jada Hensley, Joseph Hensley; sisters-in-law, Betty Lentz, Ann Lentz, and Nell Sweeney; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Brownie Holloway, Patty Johnson, Jewell Dawson; and three brothers, W. C. Sweeney, Roy Sweeney, and Robert Sweeney. Pallbearers will be Rick Coleman, Danny Coleman, Eddie Harris, Tommy Lentz, Jenna Hensley, and Mike Lentz.
