Mary Lucy Fuqua

June 24, 1926 — June 14, 2019

Mary Lucy Fuqua, widow of William George Fuqua and daughter of Lucy Meadows and Bruce Wilson, joined them in the eternal peace of God, June 14, 2019.  Mary Lucy is the mother of Lucy Scott Fuqua (Sam) Kuykendall and William Mitchell (Nancy) Fuqua, the grandmother of Samuel James Kuykendall IV (Jenny), Lucy Elizabeth Kuykendall Rice (Patrick), Jordan Fuqua Jaffee (Brian), and Mary Mitchell Fuqua, (affianced to Nicholas Brady, III), and great grandmother of Finn Neema Kuykendall, Iselle Malou Kuykendall, Emma Lucy Rice, Elizabeth Scott Rice, and Sloan Brownlee Jaffe. Mary Lucy grew up on her parents’ Giles County, TN, farm with older brothers George Robert Lewis, William Clyde Lewis, and Tommy Wilson.  As did her mother and all her aunts, Mary Lucy graduated from Martin Methodist College in Pulaski.  She completed her BS in science at George Peabody College, now of Vanderbilt University. Mary Lucy and William’s home, “Beechlawn,” was a pleasure to them and their many friends, who enjoyed wonderful meals and competitive backyard tennis.  Mary Lucy, a trained lyric soprano, devoted her time and talent to the First Presbyterian Church choir in Columbia. She loved her family and delighted in adventures of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  We miss her, but smile as the songs in her heart remain in our lives. Memorials suggested to First Presbyterian Church, Columbia or Martin  Methodist College, Pulaski, TN.
