Mary Lynda Johnson Gordon, 87, a longtime resident of Athens, Alabama, died Monday, April 22, 2024 at Life Care Center of Columbia.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, April 25, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Reverend Mike Dawson officiating.  The family will visit with friends Wednesday, April 24, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home.  Online condolences may be extended at www.oakesandnichols.com.

Lynda was born on February 9, 1937 to the late Lyndell Johnson and the late Mary Frances Richardson Damron.  She was retired from the Athens – Limestone County Public Library.  Lynda enjoyed reading and playing the piano. She was a classically trained pianist and later became a church pianist. She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her children, Arthur Jay Kilgore of Athens, Alabama, Terri (Barry) Cox of Culleoka and Reverend Murray Paul (Becky) Gordon of Leoma; brothers, Noel (Betty) Johnson of Lexington, TN and Stanley Johnson of Loretto, TN; three grandchildren, Matthew Kilgore of Bessmer, Alabama, Bethany Gordon of Atlanta, Georgia and Joey (Martha) Peden of Mt. Pleasant; great granddaughter Liley Kate Peden.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Kilgore, Robert Johnson, Tommy Carroll, Dave D’Amours, Gary Caperton, and Rick Blevins.  Honorary pallbearer will be Ricky Cox.  

The family would like to express their sincerest appreciation to Life Care Center of Columbia for the care of their mother for the past five years where she had made her home.
