Mary Marie Hammond Hanson Voss, 94, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at Life Care Center of Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Mike Green officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Friday from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Columbia Academy, 1101 West 7th Street, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Marie was born in Lawrence County, on December 29, 1924 to the late Lecil Van Hammond and the late Mary Shelton Hammond. She was one of thirteen children, all of whom are deceased. On February 26, 1944, she married Neel Preston Hanson, together they traveled to wherever Neel was stationed with the Coast Guard. To this union there was born three children. She was a faithful companion to Neel until he was taken from this life in 1988. On April 25, 1998, Marie married William “Bill” Voss. She and “Mr. Bill” traveled to several states and enjoyed their years together. Bill left this life on December 14, 2007. Marie was an outstanding wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and homemaker. She always put the needs of her family first. An avid gardener, she often shared her roses with the sick and shut-ins. She also shared vegetables with neighbors and kin from her abundant vegetable garden. Marie was known as a wonderful cook as well as an excellent seamstress and quilter. As a teenager she was baptized in a creek in Lawrence County. She was a member of the Northview Church of Christ for many years and in her later years, she worshipped with the Graymere Church of Christ. Marie is survived by her three children, Judith Ann (Ed) Murphy, Danny Neel (Patsy) Hanson, Deborah Kaye (Ray) Holcomb; grandchildren, Joel (Mary) Murphy, John Neel (Tara) Hanson, Allison Hanson, Alicia (Chris) Henson, Angela (John) Crutcher; great grandchildren, Charlie Murphy, Molly Murphy, Ben Murphy, Mitchell Madewell, Meghan Madewell, Olivia Henson, Sam Henson, and Preston Bolton.
