Mrs. Mary Ruth McGuire Mays, 96, widow of Julian Lacey Mays and long-time resident of Trotwood Avenue, died Friday, June 24, 2005 at her residence. A Memorial Service will be conducted Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the West End Baptist Church with Dr. Carl Duck officiating. The family will visit with friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P. O. A native of Houston, Mississippi, she was the daughter of the late James Elzie McGuire and Crissie Oliver Carter McGuire. She attended Texas State College for Women in Denton, Texas. Mrs. Mays was a member of the West End Baptist Church, James K. Polk Association, Maury County Chapter, APTA, Daughters of the American Revolution and Trotwood Garden Club. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Julia Ruth and Robert Parks of Columbia; two sons and daughters-in-law, William Terrence and Joyce Mays and James Julian and Lucie Mays of Columbia; grandchildren, Mary Ruth (Philip) Rogers, Anne Lacey Parks Lawrence, William Terrence (Susan) Mays, Jr., Carter Allen (Jennifer) Mays, Katherine (Guy) Dewees, James Julian (Adele) Mays, Park Nicely Mays; twelve great-grandchildren.
