Mary Elizabeth "Sam" Hendley Potts, 98, retired employee of Publix Shirt Factory and resident of Lee Drive died Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at Perry County Nursing Home. A graveside service will be conducted Friday at 1:30 P.M. at Godwin Chappell United Methodist Church Cemetery with Murray Thomas Culberson officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 11:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Mahlon Hendley and Grace Morris Hendley. On June 2, 1938 she married Clint Norman Potts who preceded her in death May 15, 1997. She was a graduate of Santa Fe High School. After retirement she enjoyed traveling and was an avid football fan, especially the University of Tennessee. Mrs. Potts was a member of Godwin Chappell United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxillary and former member of the Maury Regional Hospital Auxillary. Survivors include her son, William "Bill" (Glenda) Potts of Linden; daughter-in-law, Kathy Jo Crawford Potts of Carrollton, GA; brother, Jack Hendley of Athendale; sister-in-law, Joan Hendley of Columbia; brother-in-law, Gerald Martin of Columbia; grandchildren, James Hugh Potts, II, Penelope Ann Ford, Jamie Potts, and Shannan Carroll; great grandchildren, Jessica, Will, Gracen, Jackson, and Madelyn; one great great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, James Hugh Potts; sister, Fay Martin; brothers, Mahlon William Hendley, Kenneth Hendley, Morris Hendley, and Joe Hendley. Family and friends will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include members of the American Legion Auxillary.
