View Funeral WebcastMiss Mattie Belle Winchester, 83, life-long resident of Spring Hill, died Monday, June 22, 2009 at NHC Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at Spring Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Layne officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home and Wednesday after 9:00 A.M. at the church. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late John Alex Winchester and Minnie Lee Reese Winchester. She was a life-long member of the Spring Hill United Methodist Church where she was very active in church work. She served as Sunday School treasurer for 42 years. Miss Winchester was a private duty nurse for many years in the area and took care of some of Maury County's most prominent citizens. She was loved by all who knew her. Survivors include Brenda (Dane) Winchester Henderson of Spring Hill with whom she resided; sisters, Betty (Donald) Lunn of Columbia; Bessie Heithcock of Franklin; brothers, James (Katie) Winchester of Columbia; Joe T. Winchester of Lynnville; nieces, Ethel Winchester Lovett, Janice (John) Ring, Linda (Austin) Davis, Josephine (Jerry) Blocker, Claire (Ronnie) Riggins, Dorothy Andrews, Peggy (Ricky) Jones; nephews, Tommy (Lula) Heithcock, Charles (Carolyn) Ring, John (Thelma) Ring, Charles (Michele) Winchester, Jr.; and a host of great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces and great great nephews. She is also survived by special friends and caregivers, Wanda Holmes, Alice Smith, Mary Spencer, Tabitha Spann, Janet Joubert, Heather Staggs, Brenda Goodin, Tracy McClenic, Josh Fralix, Elaine Bennett, Emily Truelove, Rachel Smithson, and Elizabeth Biache. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Annie Elise Winchester, Nannie Louise Winchester Ring; brothers, William A. Winchester, Charles L. Winchester, John R. Winchester; nephews, Billy Winchester and Jimmy Heithcock. Active pallbearers will be Ben Gary, Joe Spencer Gary, James Paul Gary, Bobby Russell, James Lochridge, Jeffrey Williams, Randy Lochridge, and R. L. King. Honorary pallbearers will be David and Rene Norman, Doug and Pauline Robertson, Frances Andrews, Lee and Barbara Bresse, Jack and Margaret Robertson, Ann Russell, Lucy Lochridge, Rachel Lochridge, Sarah Lochridge, members of the Spring Hill United Methodist Church and the administration and staff of NHC Columbia.
