Maury Franklin Armstrong, Sr., 63, partner in Morgan Brothers Electric, died Thursday at his residence on Wedgewood Drive. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Zion Presbyterian Church with Rev. Arch Warren and George Jones officiating. Burial will be in Zion Churchyard. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols and Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church. A life-long resident of Columbia, he was a descendant of pioneer settlers of Maury County and the Zion Community. He attended Highland Park Elementary School and was a graduate of Columbia Military Academy. He later attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He was a member of Zion Presbyterian Church since early childhood. A charter founder of Zion Christian Academy, he was currently serving on the Zion Bicentennial Committee. He held perfect attendance in the Columbia Rotary Club, served as club president and was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow. Mr. Armstrong was an avid supporter of University of Tennessee football and Lady Vols basketball and was active in the University of Tennessee Alumni Association. He was a member of Tombigbee Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution and was a former member of President Jackson Society, C.A.R. Survivors include his wife, Carol Fitzgerald Armstrong of Columbia; daughters, Holly Louise (Richard Gilmore) Conners of Franklin and Virginia Helen "Hynie" (David) McDowell of Columbia; son, Maury Franklin (Shawn) Armstrong, Jr. of Columbia; mother and step-father, Audrey Pickard and Hal Morgan of Columbia; mother-in-law, Ella Grooms Fitzgerald of Columbia; grandchildren, Gilmore Conners, Jr., Rebecca Conners, Virginia Conners, Gracie McDowell, Mimi McDowell, Benjamin Armstrong, Porter Armstrong, and Emmaclaire Armstrong; step-children, Tracey House and Kristen Tyler; step-grandchildren, Savannah House, Ryan Shaw, and Zachary Shaw; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by a half-brother, Rick Morgan and two aunts, Emma Porter Armstrong and Ivey Pickard Sellers. Active pallbearers are Frierson Armstrong, Bobby Morgan, David McDowell, Gilly Conners, Wally A. Couch, Steve Howard, Wade Matheny, Eric Ivey and Larry Ervin.
