Mrs. Melba Ann Lyles Alderson, 77, native of the Hampshire Community and resident of Knoxville, died Tuesday, July 12, 2005, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville. A graveside service will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Sunday at Rose Hill Cemetery with Jeff Jacob officiating. The family will visit with friends Sunday after 1:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late James Lyles and Jessie Akin Lyles. She was married to James F. "Jim" Alderson who preceded her in death in 1991. Mrs. Alderson was a graduate of Peabody College in Nashville and retired at Cedar Bluff Elementary School in Knoxville after many years as a fourth grade teacher in the Knox County School System. Following her retirement, she was an active church and community volunteer, including Hospice, Contact Crisis Helpline, and other community outreach programs. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Christian Forum Sunday School Class in Knoxville. Survivors include one son, James F. "Chip" Alderson, III, of Nashville; one daughter, Mary Leslie "Missy" (James E.) Morgan, III of Miami; two grandchildren, Lyles Morgan and Franklin Morgan; three sisters-in-law, Grace Alderson of Columbia; Barbara Redmond of St. Louis, Missouri; Dorothy Lyles of Lafayette, Louisiana; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, James "Jim" Lyles.
