Mrs. Melba Cothron Bower, 77, former resident of Nashville and retired secretary for Miller Medical for 30 years, died Wednesday, May 9, 2007 in Winter Haven, Florida. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Doyle Parham officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Christopher Columbus "Lum" Cothron and Mary Virginia Holcomb Cothron. She was a graduate of Columbia Central High School and attended business college for 2 years. She attended the Pentecostal Church of Christ. Survivors include two daughters, Aleta Burgett of Winter Haven, Florida and Tess Massey of Smyrna; a sister, Jewell Cothron Cheek of Columbia; two brothers, Raymond (Jean) Cothron of Nashville and Billy Joe (Penny) Cothron of Columbia; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Cothron of Nashville and Mary Ann Cothron of Columbia; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Dorothy Cheatham, Charlotte Lansdowne, Virginia Barnes, and Peggy Sue Ballard; and three brothers, Nolan Cothron, Leland Cothron, and Dorris Cothron. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
