Michael Coleman Morton, loving husband, adored father and friend to all, passed away January 17, 2021. Mickey was born in Columbia, TN on December 5, 1953 to the late James and Giva Morton. He leaves behind a devoted and loving family, his wife, Debra Flowers Morton, daughter, Molly and son, Brian. Other survivors include, brother, Jim (Sonny) Morton, mother-in-law, Mattie Shannon, nephews, David Morton and Stephen Morton, and family dogs, Charlie and Marley. Mickey was a graduate of Columbia Military Academy and Tennessee Tech University. As a longtime resident of Columbia and owner of Modern Cleaners, he formed countless friendships over the years that provided many shared, fond memories. For the past twenty years he resided in Franklin, TN with his family close by and had the opportunity to travel the country as sales director for Altium Healthcare. Disciplined, steadfast, loving, kindhearted, quick to forgive and just plain fun are just a few words to describe the man he was. He often said, “at the end of the day all you have is your family,” and he lived the importance of that every single day. He was most proud of two things, his 46 year marriage, and the wonderful adults his children have become. He will be remembered as a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, son-in-law and friend, and his passing leaves those who loved and knew him with a void that can never be filled. Per request, there will be no formal service. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society or charity of your choice. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.
