Mildred Olean Mears Carroll, 91, resident of Rosewood Drive, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Signature Healthcare.Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with James Dickey officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born March 10, 1925 in Cannon County, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Sam Hall Mears and Lucille Foster Mears. On May 21, 1943, she married Lonnie Carroll who preceded her in death October 23, 1996. For 51 years, she lived on East 15th Street in Columbia. She was a seamstress at Publix Manufacturing for 26 years until her retirement. Mrs. Carroll was a member of Berea Church of Christ. Survivors include her children, Janice Carroll Hudson of Columbia; Michael (Debbie) Carroll of Mt. Pleasant; six grandchildren, Kim Carroll (Trey) Brown of Culleoka; Bill (Kelly) Carroll of Thompson Station; Julie Derryberry Prentice of Columbia; Janna Derryberry (Chris) Stewart of Columbia; Dean (Robin) Carroll of Murfreesboro; Missy Carroll (Ismael) Aranda of Jacksonville, North Carolina; thirteen great grandchildren, Alison Griffin; Dylan Stewart; Chase Stewart; Logan Prentice; Colton (Jessica) Carroll; Silas Carroll; Roman Carroll; Nathan Reed; Andrew Reed; Michael Dean Carroll; Tristin Carroll; Kayla (Jeromy) White; Carolina Aranda; and two great great grandchildren.In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sons, Billy Wayne Carroll on March 18, 1991 and Freddy Dean Carroll on January 28, 2017.Active pallbearers will be Tim Guise, Nathan Reed, Andrew Reed, Colton Carroll, Dean Carroll, and Michael Dean Carroll. Honorary pallbearers include members of Berea Church of Christ, Richard Davis, Hal Holcomb, Ray Holcomb, Robert Wilson, Dr. Thomas Farmer and Dr. Jacque Heibig. The family would like to extend sincere, heartfelt thanks to the entire staff of Signature Healthcare in Columbia.
