Mrs. Mildred Caughran Fowler, 92, widow of Charles Oscar Fowler, II, died Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at her residence on Howard Lane. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 noon Friday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Smith officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The Fayetteville native was the daughter of the late Robert L. Caughran and Elizabeth Moore Caughran. She was a graduate of Lincoln County High School and attended the University of Louisville, Ward-Belmont, and George Peabody College for Teachers. Mrs. Fowler had made her home in Columbia for the past sixty-one years where she was a member of First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of Jane Knox Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, James K. Polk Association, Maury Regional Hospital Auxiliary, Garden Club, and Thursday Club.Survivors include one son, Charles Oscar "Buddy" Fowler, III, and wife, Brenda of Mt. Pleasant; one daughter, Ruby Fowler Norstedt and husband Axel of Mobile, Alabama; ten grandchildren, Charles Oscar Fowler, IV, Janey Fowler Stults, Kirk Fowler, Bob Fowler, Mildred Dawson Hardy, Riley "Bucky" Dawson, Sally Ann Barrow, Beth Norstedt Miller, David Axel Norstedt, and Mark Allen Norstedt; two step grandchildren, Jeff Simmons and Bobby Simmons; thirty-three great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren; and one niece, Mrs. Susie (Wayne) Abernathy of Nashville.She was preceded in death by one daughter, Sara Elizabeth "Betsy" Fowler Dawson.Pallbearers will be Charles Oscar Fowler IV, Greg Stults, Bob Fowler, David Norstedt, Mark Norstedt, Riley "Bucky" Dawson, Kirk Fowler, Greg Hardy, Jeff Barrow, Charles Miller, Jeff Simmons, and Bobby Simmons.
