Mildred Green Gilliam, 93, retired employee of Service Merchandise and former resident of Altoga Court in Murfreesboro, died Sunday, July 23, 2017, at Creekside Assisted Living in Murfreesboro. A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday at 1:30 P.M. at Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 12:00 - 1:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born January 8,1924, in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Joe Horace Green and the late Georgia Clyde Holt Green. Early in life, she was employed at Logan's Grocery in Mt. Pleasant where she met her future husband; and on December 12, 1948, she married Ralph Carlton Gilliam who preceded her in death June 30, 2016. In the 1970's, she delivered catalogs for Service Merchandise and continued working at the Rivergate location for twenty-five years. Her life revolved around her family being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a member of Almaville Church of Christ. Survivors include her daughter, Gwen Martindale of Nashville; grandchildren, Shane (Jennifer) Gilliam of Clemmons, North Carolina, Clarenda Moore and Joseph Moore, both of Nashville; great grandchildren, Jackson Gilliam, Cameron Gilliam, Savannah Gilliam, Kayla Brice, and Krysta Brice. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Ralph Dennison Gilliam; grandson, Dalton Shane Gilliam; son-in-law, Ben Martindale; brothers, Ulna Green, Joe Morris Green, Davis Green; and sisters, Doris Tuttle and Freeda Brown.
