Miss Dorothy Ann King, 82, long-time former resident of West 12th Street, died Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at Rosewood Manor. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Arch Warren and Dr. John Kruckenberg officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Churchyard. Memorials may be made to Zion Cemetery Association, 2322 Zion Road, Columbia 38401. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Elmer B. King, Sr. and Mary Harris King. She was a 1944 graduate of Columbia Central High School and attended Columbia Business College from 1943-1945. She worked as an insurance agent most of her adult life. For ten years she was bookkeeper for the Maury County Sheriff's Department, retiring in 1989. A life-long member of Zion Presbyterian Church, she served as Secretary for the Sunday School and Night Circle for a number of years and was a teacher in the Primary Department for over 30 years. Ann was an avid bowler for many years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, E. B. King, Jr. She is survived by several cousins and many close friends. Active pallbearers are Raymond Sobota, Dr. John Kruckenberg, Rufus Haygood, Jimmy Couch, Edwin Couch, and William Wall. Honorary pallbearers include George Nelson, Hal Morgan, Bill Knox, Christopher Foster, Caleb Foster, Elders and Deacons of Zion Presbyterian Church and staff of Maury County Sheriff's Department.
