Mr. Hunter Lee Harris, 80, longtime resident of Alpine Drive in Columbia and resident of Cullman, Alabama, died Thursday, October 28, 2004 at Woodland Medical Center in Cullman. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Polk Memorial Gardens with Rev. Ray Newell officiating. Military honors will be provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 12 noon until 1:30 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Toledo, Ohio native was the son of the late Hunter Hill Harris and Jimmy Russell Johnson Harris. He was a graduate of Culleoka High School. He served in the United States Army, earning a Bronze Medal and Purple Heart. Mr. Harris was retired from White Sands Missle Range in New Mexico. He was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Louise Lawrence Harris of Cullman, Alabama; one daughter, Vickey (Virgil) Haley of Bowling Green, Kentucky; two sons, Dennis (Sharon) Harris of Murfreesboro, Charles (Wanda) Harris of Lewisburg; two grandsons, Michael Barlow, Tony Barlow; and one great-grandson, Christian Barlow. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Newman Harris. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
