Mr. Maxie Vaughn, 88, retired farmer, school bus driver and truck driver, died peacefully after a lengthy illness, Sunday, May 23, 2004 at his daughter's residence in Nashville. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens with lifelong Christian friend, Billy Dean Felker, and Ted Burleson officiating. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Alive Hospice, 1718 Patterson St., Nashville, TN 37203, or the Hospice of your choice. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was born March 4, 1916, the son of the late Mack Vaughn and Ella Johnson Vaughn. He attended Fountain Heights School. Mr. Vaughn was a retired farmer from the Fountain Heights Community. He retired from the Maury County School System in 1972 after eighteen years as a school bus driver. He also worked for Charles C. Parks Company and Amber Electric. He enjoyed farming as well as hunting and fishing with family and friends as long as his health permitted. This sweet, gentle man was well known for his kindness, sense of humor and great love for his family. He loved reminiscing and telling family stories. He had a strong Christian faith and was a member of the Church of Christ attending Mooresville Pike, Collegeview, West 7th Street, and Jackson Heights Churches of Christ. Survivors include his wife of ten years, Mrs. Ina Harvey Vaughn of Columbia; four daughters, Mrs. Shirley (Harold) Grigsby, Mrs. Beverly (Ken) Curtis all of Nashville, Patricia (Harlan) Walker of Lewisport, Kentucky, Mrs. Diane (Buddy) Butler of Jackson; four grandsons, Todd (Monica) Grigsby of Nashville, Berry (Martha) Richardson, Montie (Elaina) Richardson all of Houston, Texas, Dr. Brad Dawson-Butler of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; step-grandchildren, Ronn Walker of Eustis, Florida, Mark and Carrie Walker of Ft. Mill, South Carolina, Courtney Pichon of Houston, Texas, Khristopher Pichon, USAF, Korea; ten great-grandchildren, Josh, Andy, Trevor and Travis Grigsby all of Nashville, Mark and Sarah Grigsby of Miami, Florida, Christina Richardson Villanueva, Kaleigh, Carlie and Ian Richardson of Houston, Texas; three step-great-grandchildren, Ashley Walker, Sam Walker both of Ft. Mill, South Carolina, Nicholas Walker of Tallahassee, Florida; and great-great granddaughter, Andrea Villanueva of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by numerous beloved nephews, nieces and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his first wife of fifty years, Mildred Deason Vaughn in 1989, first grandson, Tim Grigsby in 1999, three brothers Horace Vaughn, Tock Vaughn, Mark Vaughn and three sisters, Callie Moser, Ruby Poe and Evie Walker. Pallbearers will be grandsons, great-grandsons and long time friend, Charlie Richardson.
