View Video TributeNorman Burk Howell, 62, resident of Clear Creek Road in the Richland Community of Giles County, died Friday, February 11, 2011 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Monday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Clyde Denton officiating. Burial will follow in Lynnwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to American Cancer Society, P. O. The Maury County native was the son of the late Raymond Howell and Thenie Josephine Pullen Howell. He was a 1966 graduate of Columbia Central High School. He served in the U. S. Army and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal with Two Bronze Service Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, and the Bronze Star Medal. Mr. Howell was a retired employee of Monsanto Chemical Company and PlusMark Corporation in Franklin. He enjoyed woodworking and was a former hunter and fisherman. He had served as Boy Scout Master in Culleoka and Columbia Academy. Survivors include his wife of thirty-eight years, Wanda Roland Howell of the Richland Community in Giles County; two sons, Brian Howell of Manchester; Brad Howell of Birmingham, AL; four brothers, Gene (Adgil) Howell, Don (Jane) Howell, Doug (Janice) Howell, Gary (Roxanne) Howell, all of Columbia; sister-in-law, Fay Bean of Spring Hill; three brothers-in-law, Harold (Beverly) Roland of West Palm Beach, FL; Kenneth Roland of Culleoka; Ricky (Nancy) Roland of Centerville; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be his nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be retirees of Monsanto Chemical Company and PlusMark Corporation. The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Moataz Toban and staff.
